Sonic Youth To Release On Matador in 2009

After rampant speculation, Matador Records can confirm the label will be releasing a new studio album from Sonic Youth sometime in 2009. Having fulfilled their contractual obligations to the Universal Music Group, Sonic Youth recently reached an agreement with Matador to release the band’s 16th album of new material in all worldwide territories, save for Japan.

While Sonic Youth’s status as one of the more innovative and influential bands of the past 30 years needs little explanation, the group’s most recent recordings for Geffen — 2006’s ‘Rather Ripped’ being their final for the label — rank amongst the current decade’s best.

Fleet Foxes is a five-piece Seattle based band signed to the labels Sub Pop and Bella Union. The quintet describe their music as "baroque harmonic pop jams".

Hollywood Mon Amour

Marc Collin of the Nouvelle Vague fame returns after producing Two for the Road last year. This time, the theme is the reinvention of movie soundtracks back in the 80s. The album is call Hollywood, Mon Amour and will be released next month!

Singers on the album include, Skye Edwards (Singer of Morcheeba till 2003) and Juliette Lewis, actress and singer of Juliette and the licks.

Travis: Ode to J Smith

Ode To J Smith is Travis's loudest, edgiest and most arresting record since their debut. Written in 5 weeks and recorded in just 14 days, it's the sound of a band re-born, re-inspired and re-energised. Says bassist Dougie Payne, "we wanted this record to have some rough edges. In the past we might have been guilty of making really beautiful things that were so smooth you almost slipped off them. You can't say that about this one. We really pushed ourselves. It's like prog-pop; lots happening in about three minutes".

Ode to J Smith will be out in September in all good record stores! In the meantime, check out the music video of their single "Something Anything".

Grizzly Bear is Jonny Greenwood's favorite band

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is not exactly a man known for saying much onstage, preferring to flop his fringe around as he wrings peculiar noises nobody quite understands from his instrument.

So handsome Brooklyn gents Grizzly Bear must have made something of an impression on Greenwood during their recent stint supporting Radiohead along the US and Canadian East Coast. At last Friday's tour-closing concert in Toronto, Colin and Jonny Greenwood sported Grizzly Bear t-shirts and, just before Radiohead played 'House Of Cards', Jonny stepped forward and said something along the lines of "Thom wants me to thank my favorite band in the world, Grizzly Bear, so thanks a lot, thank you very much for touring with us." To which Thom exclaimed, excitedly, "Jonny speaks!"
